MOONSHINE WIZARD

"Not since the feud between the Hatfields and Mccoys, has anyone made a bunch of hillbillies interesting, and that’s just what Phillip Duncan did with Moonshine Wizard."

Moonshine Wizard

Magic and moonshine.

Waylon ‘Bert’ Drake is a wizard and a moonshiner. Neither pays well, but he gets by doing the occasional odd job or selling a jar.

Growing up learning magic, he dreamed of the day he and his wizard buddies would save the world. But his friends all grew up. Bert didn’t, and there’s not much world to save in the quiet Ozarks.

That all changes when a dark wizard shows up and makes a simple threat: Bert will find a mysterious object for him, or the sorcerer will kill Bert and everyone he cares about.

Only, this prick isn’t the only one after the treasure. Several other dark entities want the same thing… And for some reason, they all got it in their heads that Bert should find it for them.

If that ain’t bad enough, none of these jerk wads seem to know exactly what the object is. But the threat is the same: find it for us, or we’ll kill everyone you love.

Bert and his talking sword are in a race against time to find this mysterious trinket, and then figure out what the heck to do with it. All while trying not to drag his friends into the mess or get caught by the local Hand of Magic goons, who’d love nothing more than to put him down, if they can prove he’s gone rogue.

And of course, he’ll have to contend with a pile of dark wizards, flea-ridden were-critters, suck-heads, mage killing assassins, and a group of beings darker than anything he could imagine.

But Waylon ‘Bert’ Drake will do whatever it takes to protect the people he cares about, even if that means condemning himself.

It’s all or nothing for the Moonshine Wizard.

First Job

An ogre, a primate, and the Moonshine Wizard walk into a bar…

Okay, not really. Bert and his team are on a mission to intercept and detain a creature that, to Bert, sounds an awful lot like an ogre.

The team still doesn’t trust their newest magic-wielding member, so it’s important that he does his part. Which is hard to do when he keeps getting pushed to the sidelines.

But when it comes time to capture the beast, they find that they may be in a little over their heads.

In fact, this easy job has turned into something far more sinister.

With the lives of his team at stake, Bert has no choice but to come off the sidelines and try to save the day, or his team will be lost.

The Ogre & the Primates

A Sword Named Sharp

The first time the sword spoke into his mind, Bert wasn’t sure whether it was a blessing or a curse.

Ever since then, the sarcastic hunk of metal hasn’t shut up, and Bert still doesn’t know whether he should trust the blade.

But with the lives of his team on the line, Bert will be forced to make a hard decision: trust the sword, or try to survive on his own.

    Also, there’s a pirate.

Hunting One Like Us

Sometimes the good guys just ain’t that good.

The Hand of Magic is shy on mercy. As the ruling body of the supernatural world, they’re responsible for protecting humanity from things that go bump in the night. Justice is swift and ruthless.

Bert and his wizard buddies grew up fearing the Hand. And the local authorities, led by Carter, have it out for Bert. But sometimes they have work, and the pay is always good.

The job is to help Carter’s goons bring in a rogue wizard.

But when Bert and his friends find this ‘dark’ mage, he isn’t at all what they were expecting.

It’s no longer clear who’s right and who’s wrong. The lines between justice and wickedness are blurred. The difference between dark and light sits on a razor’s edge, as does life and death.

Bert and his pals will question everything they believe, and what it means to be a ‘dark’ wizard.

The Monster Beneath the Bed

Sometimes, the monster under your bed is real.

    Tommy is scared.

Like, really scared. He won’t sleep. And who can blame the little guy?

He has a monster under his bed.

At her wits end, Tommy’s mother approaches a local who, for a small fee, will make the ‘monsters’ go away.

It’s a schtick Bert and his friend Neil have performed countless times. ‘Pretend’ to be wizards, put on a show, and convince the kid they used magic to slay the wicked creatures. Works every time.

     Except…this time.

The Hunt for the Dark Wizard

Bert thought it would be easy money.

When Arthur told him about the gig, he jumped at the opportunity. Get paid to play mercenary for a few hours with very little chance of danger? He couldn’t sign up fast enough.

But he was wrong. Arthur was wrong. And the Hand of Magic’s intel was wrong.

Now, Bert, Arthur, and a gang of wizards have found themselves pitted against a dark wizard with immeasurable power.

If they can’t stop the dark wizard in time, the consequences will be grave. But to stop him, they’ll have to fight their way through an army of animated garden gnomes, hulking grendels, and the dark wizard himself.

There’re tales about how the Moonshine Wizard gained his infamy. Many of them start here.
